Centrifugation of intact cells

You can use the Sorvall high speed centrifuge to pellet bacteria. Place your bacterial growth with media into a 400ml centrifuge tube. Place the tube in the rotor and centrifuge at about 4000 rpm for 15 minutes. Remove the supernatant. This is the result.

You can also centrifuge eukaryotic cell populations using low speed in a benchtop centrifuge. You can use a gradient at low speed to seperate out populations. The RIC Facility is working on getting a low speed benchtop centrifuge.
