Location: 873 WIDB

The MIDI system is used to identify bacteria and fungi based on gas chromatographic (GC) analysis of cellular fatty acid methyl esters (FAMEs). The database contains over 1,500 species of bacteria which are easily identified.

The database contains the following types of cells:

• Aerobic Bacteria

• Anaerobic Bacteria

• Actinomyces

• Mycobacteria

• Enviornmental and Clinical Yeast

• Fungi

The RIC Facility personnel will run samples that have already been prepared in GC vials. The RIC Facility will provide the GC vials, as well as the GC standards. This is included in the setup fee to run the instrument. Preparation of samples and obtaining reagants is up to the investigator. Please contact the facility for further information.
